Frank Fortin, CAE
Senior Communications and Member Engagement Consultant
Frank Fortin, CAE, is an experienced executive who has helped for-profit and not-for-profit organizations build and deepen their engagement with customers and members for more than 30 years. His clients have included the New Balance Athletic Shoe Co., Massachusetts Medical Society, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the Smart Electric Power Alliance. He is noted for introducing innovative approaches to his clients’ marketing communications issues and helping them build enduring expertise in digital marketing and community management. His award-winning work has been honored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and other organizations.
He is currently President of High Rock Strategies, in Alexandria, Virginia, providing consulting services to national and regional trade and professional associations. His most recent engagements included serving as Interim Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Membership for the Infectious Diseases Society of America, where he implemented the recommendations of a communications audit he participated in with Association Vision several months earlier.
For Medstro, a Boston-based online community platform for health care and medical associations, Fortin is providing community management counsel to its clients. At the Smart Electric Power Alliance, he oversaw its integration of operations with a trade association following a merger with that organization. This included integrating human resources and financial systems, marketing, communications, and membership strategies, and overseeing the integration of the organizations’ websites.
At the Society for General Internal Medicine, Fortin led a staff of 14 and worked with its board of directors to implement its strategic plan and vision. Critical among its activities was a robust online member community, through which its committees, task forces, and interest groups conducted its daily business.
At the Massachusetts Medical Society in Waltham, Mass., Fortin was responsible for developing and executing strategic messaging for the legislative and regulatory advocacy programs and public health education. He led the organization’s transition to a digitally focused association by creating and leading a cross-functional team that oversaw four separate website upgrades, selected and launched a new association management system, and developed its first integrated social media communications and marketing strategy for media relations, print and email newsletters, video, and other multimedia programs. A noteworthy campaign was its award-winning public education campaign in 2015-16 to address the opioid addiction epidemic in Massachusetts communities.
Fortin was also a vice president and partner with RDW Group, an award-winning marketing communications firm in Providence, Rhode Island, after a successful career in print and broadcast journalism in New York and Rhode Island. As a producer and reporter, he received several awards for his documentary filmmaking and breaking news coverage.
He is an active member and volunteer for ASAE and currently serves on its Publishing, Communications, and Media Research Advisory Board. He has held ASAE’s designation of Certified Association Executive (CAE) since 2011 and is certified by HubSpot for Inbound Marketing strategy and implementation.
